Description:
The Belgian Presidency is hosting a Conference in Brussels on December 15th – 16th under the title “Lift-off towards Open Government”. The first ever Ministerial eGovernment Conference was held in 2001; this Conference aims to demonstrate the achievement of past European eGovernment efforts, and the impact of this for citizens and industry.

The main theme of this conference will be about “Open Government”, emphasizing to the implementation of cross-border interoperability in practice. According to Frank Leyman, responsible for International Relations within Fedict, the Conference is one of the major events at the end of the Belgian Presidency. “We will focus on past Open Government efforts and prove that a lot of these efforts have resulted in very concrete, specific projects that benefit Europe’s citizens”.

Topics and themes like the presentation of a number of large international projects (STORK, SPOCS, PEPPOL, epSOS), the Action Plan 2015 or Europe 2020 – The Digital Agenda will feature large in the Conference Program. Two days full of breakout-sessions, a ‘Battle of the CEO’s’, a gala dinner and an exhibition will ensure that this Conference is an excellent networking event and well worth a trip to Brussels.

In preparation of the upcoming ”Lift-off towards Open Government 2010” Conference in Brussels, a website has been launched (http://www.opengov2010.be).

The Conference website has been designed first and foremost as a practical tool for those interested in the Conference. “We want to handle these Conference registrations as smoothly as possible” Frank Leyman explains, “and building a website centralizing all practical information around a registration module, is definitely the way to go.”

Today, the Conference website contains the preliminary programmes of both the Conference itself (organized by Fedict) and the Pre-Conference (organized by Corve). It offers a list of hotels where participants can book rooms at special rates. Through its Twitter- and Facebookpages, the website also provides regular updates and practical information for those interested.

With the launch of the Conference website, registrations are now open. “Do not hesitate too long”, Frank Leyman warns “as there is a lot of interest for both the Conference as well as the Gala Diner we are organizing. The Gala Diner on the evening of the first Conference Day (December 15th 2010) promises to be an important networking event”.
